WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON MINOR CAR ACCIDENT INJURIES?

The most common minor car accident injuries are most often referred to as “soft tissue” damage. This is damage such as bruising and swelling of muscles and tendons due to the impact of the car accident. As an example, the most common injury is whiplash. If you are experiencing symptoms such as neck pain, stiffness in the neck and back, or you notice an increase in pain when you are in motion, you may have suffered a whiplash injury.

Even though these injuries are considered minor, don’t think you should avoid having treatment. Any injury to the body, even if minor, should be treated by a specialist; most chiropractors are specialists in car injuries who work to REVERSE THE DAMAGE AND SPEED RECOVERY.

Minor injuries can impact you for the rest of your life. A good chiropractor can often tell you’ve been in a car accident simply by examining your spine and surrounding soft tissue changes.

WHAT DO I DO IF I GET IN A CAR ACCIDENT?

-Pull your vehicle over to a safe location on the road and check everyone in your car.

If anyone is injured and unconscious, you need to call 911 and be able to report the injuries in a calm manner. The operator will need to know your location. Be prepared to provide a street name or other helpful information. The operator will likely ask you questions about the injury and may provide you with instructions.

Having a police officer at the accident can often make a considerable impact on the outcome of your case. It is very important that you have police respond to your accident.

-Obtain information about the other driver(s) and accident scene.

While you are waiting for the police to arrive, take the opportunity to gather information about the other driver(s). This includes the other driver’s name, contact information, insurance policy number, vehicle registration number, vehicle make and model, and driver’s license number.

-Take pictures.

Taking pictures of the vehicle damages and your injuries is one of the most important things that you can photograph after a crash. You should take photos of your injuries as soon as possible after they were sustained and in the days following your accident. Some injuries, like bruises, will not show up immediately. As they appear, make sure you document them.

In some instances, a car accident victim will be unable to take photos at the scene. If that is the case, try to get a family member or friend to take pictures on your behalf as soon as possible. If you are unable to reach someone immediately, certain photos such as photos of your injuries, damages to your vehicle and skid marks can be taken at a later date. Taking pictures at the scene of the accident, however, is always preferable.

-You should see a doctor after a car accident.

You should see a doctor as soon as possible after your car accident.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I DON’T FEEL PAIN OR I DON’T SEE DAMAGE IN MY CAR

In these rare circumstances, you’ll get into an accident and sustain no injuries. These accidents are the ones where a car was bumped and no damage was done to either car. No police report or insurance call.

But, the majority of car accidents involve injuries that need to be treated. What often happens is that victims often feel like there are no injuries to report and they don’t want the hassle of going to the doctor and/or bothering anyone with their injuries. The best advice would be “If your car was “damaged in any way, even if it looks minimal”, “you were injured too” even if you don’t feel anything right after the accident.
